Blizzard introduced Temporary Economy Holds in the Forever beta: an account suspected of selling or receiving RMT gold can be limited in Trade, Mail, Guild Banks and the Auction House while Blizzard investigates. Holds lift automatically if the activity is found legitimate, confirmed RMT leads to account actions, and a hold alone leaves no permanent strike. Blizzard says false positives may occur during tuning and that the systems will be deployed to all WoW versions if successful.
